THE ZONES OF TENNIS

THE ZONES OF TENNIS

THERE ARE THREE ZONES ON A TENNIS COURT AND IF YOU UNDERSTAND THESE ZONES IT WILL HELP YOU MAKE UP YOUR MIND ON WHAT SHOT TO HIT.

ZONE 1 IS THE DEFENSIVE AREA OF THE COURT IT STARTS FROM THE FENCE TO ABOUT 3 FEET IN FRONT OF THE SERVICE LINE.

ZONE 2 THE ATTACK ZONE, STARTS FROM THAT POINT TO ABOUT 3 FEET INSIDE THE SERVICES LINE.

ZONE 3 THE KILL ZONE, IS FROM 3 FEET INSIDE THE SERVICE LINE TO THE NET. THE AREA UPON WHICH YOU ARE STANDING SHOULD DICTATE YOUR CHOICE OF SHOT. TOO, OFTEN I SEE ONE OR EVEN TWO GREAT SHOTS AND THEN COMES THE POOR SHOT SELECTION, WHICH PRODUCES ERRORS DUE TO LACK OF SKILLS OR UTILIZATION OF PRESENT SKILLS. THE GOAL IS TO WORK FOR OPENINGS AND SET UP A WINNING SHOT, NOT TRY AND END THE POINT FROM EVERY POSITION ON THE COURT.

REMEMBER, A SMART PLAYER USES THE TOOLS HE OR SHE HAS TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF ERROR'S THEY PRODUCE, NOT CREATE MORE CHANCES FOR MISTAKES.

TIP FOR THE MONTH

TIP FOR THE MONTH - One Minute Tennis Lesson

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF WARM-UP? A WARM-UP SERVES TO INCREASE BODY AND MUSCLE TEMPERATURES, WHICH INCREASES BLOOD FLOW AND MAKES MORE OXYGEN AVAILABLE TO THE MUSCLES. BY WARMING UP, YOU REDUCE THE LIKELIHOOD OF INJURIES TO MUSCLES AND JOINTS AND LESSEN THE DANGER OF INADEQUATE BLOOD FLOW TO THE HEART. A WARM-UP ALSO 'FOCUSES ' THE ATHLETE TO PERFORMING PSYCHOLOGICALLY IN HIS PRE-MATCH HABITS. AFTER A WARM-UP YOU ARE NOW READY FOR STRETCHING. A VERY GOOD PRE-MATCH HABIT FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE. AFTER, THE MATCH A COOL DOWN ALLOWS THE BODY AND PULSE TO RETURN TO ITS STARTING CONDITION BY DECREASING THE BODY TEMPERATURE GRADUALLY. IT ALSO IMPROVES CIRCULATION AND REDUCES MUSCULAR TENSION AND THE CHANCE OF MUSCULAR SORENESS. I'D RECOMMEND A COMBINATION OF JOGGING SLOWLY AND PERFORMING STRETCHING EXERCISES FOR 10 MINUTES BEFORE AND AFTER YOUR MATCH.

The Lob – One Minute Tennis Lesson

THE LOB: THE LOB IS THE MOST OFFENSIVE WEAPON WHEN USED CORRECTLY; GENERALLY THE PROS USE THE LOB WITH A VARIETY OF SPINS AND IN MANY DEFENSIVE SITUATIONS. AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE WHEN YOUR OUT OF POSITION AND DESPERATE FOR RECOVERY. IN A MATCH AGAINST YOUR OPPONENTS THIS SHOT IS PLAYED BECAUSE THEY USUALLY DON'T WANT TO TRAVEL TO THE NET, BECAUSE THEIR COMFORT ZONE IS THE BASELINE. AN EXAMPLE FOR INSTANCE IS LOBBING TO YOUR OPPONENTS WEAK OVERHEAD. EXPERIENCED PLAYERS USE THE LOB TO ATTACK AND KEEP THEIR OPPONENTS OFF THE NET. THE ART OF DECEPTION IS WHY GOOD PLAYERS LURE THERE OPPONENTS IN, LEADING THEM BELIEVE THEY ARE GOING TO TRY A PASSING SHOT, THEN DISASTER STRIKES. ! THE LOB.
